March 5th to 11th, 2012
CJLO

From March 5th to March 11th, supporters of this great station will have a chance to win excellent prizes donated by local businesses while insuring the continued success of their campus/community voice.

During the fall semister of 2011, with the support of the undergraduate population at Concordia University, CJLO 1690 AM won a very important fee-levy campaign which has set the ball in motion for the station to apply to broadcast on a low power FM frequency.  This will require a lot of hard work, energy, and various funding sources. A Funding Drive is the second main source of income for campus/community radio stations and CJLO is proud to annouce that after three years of being on air, we have laid the foundations for an annual Funding Drive.

HOW TO DONATE:

Volunteers at the station will be hitting the streets with Pre-Funding Drive Pledge Forms very soon.  With the Funding Drive Pledge Form, you will be able to fill out all the necessary details and either mail it back to the station or bring it in person.   Listeners will also be able to pledge on-line.  Once a pledge has been made, you will be contacted by the station for your details to guarantee your participation in the prize draws that correspond to the amount that you have donated.  Listeners can also call into the station to donate during the Funding Drive week at 514 848 7471.

Payments can be made by cash or cheque. If you would like to use a credit card, click here to make an online donation via PayPal.  If you would like to donate $50 for the grand prize draw but cannot at the moment, you can do so by writing 5 post dated cheques for the amount of $10 each. Please make out cheques to the Concordia Student Broadcasting Corporation.

Jon Asher will join Anna of Purple Carrot this Sunday Feb 5th at 11am for an interview to discuss Blankfest, which takes place on Saturday Feb 18th at Frites Alors (680 St. Catherine).

About: Blankfest Quebec is organized by Jon Asher, in collaboration with the Old Brewery Mission, and was launched after Jon read about his friend, New York City indie rock veteran Kenn Rowell of The Baghdaddios, who founded Blankfest in 1997 and has been organizing the annual blanket fundraiser in New York City for the past 15 years.

In the past, Rowell says, Blankfest NYC has raised more than 6,000 total donations that have been distributed to the homeless in the New York City area and has inspired similar efforts in New Jersey, Manhattan and Nottingham, UK. Among the many distinguished artists who have performed at past international Blank-Fests are: Rothberg (EMI), Buddy Cage (Grateful Dead), Marc Rizzo (Soulfly) and Meg Griffin (Sirius Radio).

This coming Friday January 13th at 11:59pm, SALVATION FROM SIN pays homage to the late, great DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr, on what would have been the Nobel Peace Prize winner's 83rd birthday, had he not been assassinated on April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.

SFS will showcase several of his most poignant speeches including those from his March on Washington, his stance on the Vietnam War, and of course his I Have A Dream speech. Without bastardizing his heavy words of peace, love and brotherhood, we will also showcase a plethora of inspirational & tasteful House music that best exemplifies the late Reverend's outlook on what the World should have been and should still be.
