About this contributor

Hailing from beautiful but boring Victoria, B.C., Erica is in her fourth and final year as a journalism student at Concordia. She has been reading and writing the news at CJLO since January 2010 and took over as News Director in August. Prior to joining the news team, she interned at CBC News Montreal and 940 News Montreal (before it became an all music station). Erica is most often seen with a camera around her neck, and is probably wearing the same pants as the last time you saw her. She doesn't have a natural hair colour, so don't ask. She will take any opportunity to wear a costume, and still thinks that racewalking in high school makes her an athlete.

Still reeling from the death of yet another young player, the NHL is vowing to examine the three recent hockey deaths.

Wade Belak was found dead on Wednesday, only 35 years old.

His death is the most recent in a trio of young hockey deaths over the past four months. Both Rick Rypien and Derek Boogard also passed away recently.

While their deaths are all unique, all three were known for their willingness to fight.

In a joint statement released by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr Thursday, the two vowed to examine...

Starting Friday, Quebec's construction workers are on vacation. More than a hundred thousand workers will have the next two weeks off.

As vacation pay - they'll get three hundred and twenty six million dollars. The Quebec Construction Commission says that's up ten percent from last year.

The annual holiday was legislated in 1970. The province estimates that more than a quarter of its workforce takes their holidays at this time as well.

Police warn that this is one of the most dangerous times on highways as vacationers leave the city. During the holiday last year, thirty-six people died in road accidents.

Residents living near the MUHC Super Hospital construction site are getting ready for more dust and dirt. The next phase will have construction continue overnight.

In order to improve access to the hospital, Decarie Boulevard will be widened to five lanes from three lanes. But that also means rebuilding a railway underpath. In order to not disrupt CP rail's services, the work must be done between seven p.m. and five a.m.

This leaves no relief for nearby residences. The Glen Yards area is already fed up with the disruptions the building has caused.  However, this phase is expected to be completed by November.

Montreal police have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the 2005 shooting death of Mohammed Anas Bennis. The long-delayed coroner's inquest says that Montreal police officer Yannick Bernier was acting in self defence when he shot and killed Bennis.

According to the report, Bennis attacked Bernier with a knife, wrestling him to the ground. Witnesses say they heard him scream that he had been struck. When he got up again he pulled out his gun. Bernier said Bennis refused multiple requests to drop his knife. When he allegedly lunged at him, the officer fired two shots.

However, Bennis' lawyer says there are...
